Bradford Swimming Club Constitution 2009

1) The name of the Club shall be “The Bradford Swimming Club)

2) The objects of the Club shall be

a) To provide comprehensive training for such swimmers in the Club’s

area who wish to join and can fulfil the entry qualifications as laid

down by the committee.

b) To provide the necessary facilities for such training.

3) The affairs of the Club shall be in the hands of Chairman, Vice Chairman,

Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary and a committee of nine with the

power to co-opt all of whom shall be elected annually at the Annual

General Meeting.

4) The Club shall appoint each year at the AGM an Emergency Committee

consisting of the Officers of the Club and ONE other committee member.

This committee shall have full power whenever necessity arises to deal

with matters of urgency. Its decisions shall be binding until the next

meeting of the full Committee.

5) Five Officials shall form a quorum.

6) The Committee shall appoint Coaches who shall automatically become

members of the committee. Two swimmers shall be elected as Club

Captains and will also automatically join the Committee.

7) The Annual General Meeting shall be held not later than 30th November of

each year. The Secretary shall, not less than two weeks prior to the date

of the AGM send out notices calling the meeting along with an agenda.

8) Any alterations or additions to the existing constitutional laws of the Club

must be in the hands of the Secretary in writing together with the names

of the proposer and seconder at least two weeks before the AGM. To carry

out any such motion at least two thirds of the votes cast must be in favour

of the motion.

9) A Special General Meeting may be called at any time by the committee, or

on request signed by not less than seven members of the Club.

10) The Financial Year shall be from the 1st November to 31st October. Any

two officers of the Club shall be empowered to sign cheques.

11) All paid up members of the Club 17 years of age or over on 1st December

in the year of the Annual General Meeting shall be eligible to vote or be

elected onto the Committee.

12) Funds: All funds shall be under the control of the officers and Committee

and shall be used solely for the furtherance of the objects of the Club as

stated in Rule 2 or for the charitable purposes. In the event of the

dissolution of the Club the funds remaining shall be devoted to objects

similar to those of the Club or to charity, at the discretion of the

Committee.

13) There shall be two classes of membership –

a) Swimming (all members to be strictly amateur as defined by the ASA).

All applicants for swimming membership shall have reached the

standard set out by the Committee

b) Social

14) The Club shall be affiliated to the District and County ASA and shall enter

in their competitions.

15) Annual Subscriptions – Members shall subscribe at the rate to be fixed at

the AGM of the Club. Subscriptions are due on the 1st December but must

be paid by 31st January.

16) Admission Fees – A charge for swimmers shall be made at each session.

The charge to be fixed by the committee.

17) The “Chief Coach” shall have power to apply disciplinary action by

expelling a swimmer causing trouble for 1 week in the first instance and

the “Chief Coach and two Committee members” 1 month in the second

instance.

18) Minutes of each Committee meeting are available through any Committee

member.

19) Safety – Although the Club will take every precaution for the safety of

members and their property whilst attending the Club, it cannot be held

responsible for any loss or damage which may occur.

20) Club Championships – All trophies are the property of the Club and are for

annual competition. Winners of such trophies must hand to the Treasurer

(on a form provided) a signed receipt and indemnification for the safe

keeping and return of the same. Any swimmer not renewing membership

or resigning from the Club during the year must return immediately all

trophies belonging to the Club. All Club trophies to be returned by

September 1st.

21) Bradford Swimming Club is a competitive club.
