A guide to training equipment you made need, where to get it and how much you should expect to pay.
In order to ensure that coaching sessions are as effective as possible, the coaching team have suggested that swimmers obtain some basic equipment of their own that they can bring with them each time they train. This will ensure that all swimmers are able to carry out the drills required and that the coaches can maximise swimming time by removing the need to find equipment on an ad-hoc basis during the sessions.
Over the last 12 months the club has attempted where possible to source training equipment on behalf of new members. However, a combination of availability issues and fluctuating prices has made this increasingly difficult. We have therefore chosen to provide a list of equipment that may be required and the best retailers to purchase them from.
Retailers
Swimshop are the biggest on-line retailer of swimwear and training equipment in the UK. They offer an on-line discount of £2.50 for every £20 spent and free delivery on all orders over £40.
Mailsports offer a reasonably extensive range of swimwear and training equipment. Not usually as cheap as Swimshop but worth checking out for regular price led promotions.
Pro Swimwear is a relatively new on-line retailer but is developing a reputation for keen pricing and excellent customer service. They offer an on-line discount of 10% and free delivery. They were the first UK based supplier of the competitivly priced Yingfa swimwear range.
Gerrard Swimwear produce the PAW brand of swimwear and accesories. Although the range is somewhat limited, some of the prices are very competetive.
Equipment
Listed below are some of the more commonly required items with links to some examples as a guide.
A pullbuoy is often used in drills. There isn't much variety in designs so expect to spend in the region of £3 to £4.
A kickboard is used in leg kick drills. There are a wide variety of designs ranging in price from £5 to £15. Look for a fairly standard rectangular design with hand holes costing no more than £10.
A mesh bag is usually the best way to transport your training equipment as it allows water to drain freely. Typically prices vary from £3 to £6 for a medium sized bag.
